Programmer's Poems
"The Raven" Cover
I started working on my cover of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" today. It is a very long poem so I don't know when I'll be finished my final cover. However, I have covered a couple stanzas!
The Client
Once upon a workday dreary, while I programmed, weak and weary,
Over many quaint and curious volume of code abhored-
I was typing, keyboard clacking, suddenly there came a tapping,
As if someone gently rapping, rapping on my office door
"'Tis some co-worker," I muttered, "tapping at my office door- only this and nothing more."
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December
And each seperate error message piled up, more and more
Eagerly I sought the morrow;-vainly, I had sought to borrow
From Github a wisdom morsel - code to fix the bugs galore
So to staunch the endless stream of bugs galore
Which break my code for evermore
"The Road Not Taken" Cover
This is my cover of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", but it's about the two most popular software lifecycles: Agile and Waterfall. I dedicate it to my Software Design III professor, Dr. Scott. Enjoy!
The Cycle Not Taken
Two project life cycles torment me
And sorry I could pursue but one
To build a product successfully.
I thought 'bout waterfall briefly,
And pondered if it should be done
And I took the other, new and strange
And having perhaps the better claim
'cause it's iteration fostered change
Though a new method could my team derange
And I'd rather not set my team aflame
So, my dilemma still did lay
A puzzle I could just not crack
Oh, I used waterfall the other day
Yet knowing how change builds 'long the way
I doubted if I should ever go back
So listen, those who are in this bind
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two cycles diverged in a project of mine
I took the one with change in mind
And that has made all the difference
